St George rides again in 2010
“Upon this charge, cry ‘God for Harry, England and Saint George!”
– Henry V, William Shakespeare
“April 23rd 2010 will see the revival of a great English tradition not seen in the City of London since 1585. St George, patron saint of England will parade through the streets of the Square Mile, for the first time in 425 years.
On this occasion he will be escorted by the Band of The Parachute Regiment, the Regimental Colour party, Pegasus the Regimental Mascot, and soldiers and armoured combat vehicles. St George himself will be mounted on horseback with the legendary figures of the King and his daughter, and the lamb led by a maiden.
The Worshipful Company of Armourers & Brasiers has created this unique event to honour and support The Parachute Regiment and to raise funds for The Parachute Regiment Charity and its own Gauntlet Trust.
This is a glorious opportunity for the City of London and the whole nation to celebrate England, enjoy an historic spectacle and show support for our Armed Forces.”
